Primary Care at Providence Medical Group

A primary care doctor is your family’s main point of contact within the health care system. Most people think of their primary care doctor as their family doctor who provides a broad spectrum of medical services and the majority of their care, and coordinates referrals to other specialists for medical or surgical treatments. Family doctors have expertise in family-oriented and individual care, including pediatrics and child rearing, aging, health education, nutrition and preventive care. They also diagnose and treat many acute and chronic illnesses.

There are three types of primary care doctors within St. Joseph Health Medical Group, with offices conveniently located throughout the Northern California:

  • Family doctors, who care for patients at every stage of life from birth through old age.
  • Pediatricians, who treat newborns through age 18-21.
  • Internal medicine physicians (internists), who are trained in the management of acute, chronic and complex illnesses for adult and elderly patients.
