Paul Kefalides, MD is a board certified gastroenterologist at Petaluma Valley Hospital and Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He began his health care journey at the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics. He then went on to receive a Medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Chicago. He completed advanced training in endoscopic ultrasound and biliary endoscopy at the University of California at San Diego. He has been practicing general gastroenterology since 2001 and has worked in private practice settings and also spent 15 years in the integrated health care system of Kaiser Permanente. He has extensive experience in digestive diseases and conditions and has for many years focused on colorectal cancer screening, complications of gastrointestinal malignancy, inflammatory bowel disease and chronic liver diseases. His practice emphasizes good patient communication and his treatment recommendations blend evidence-based care with an appreciation for each patient's perspectives and their motivation for seeking his consultation. Dr. Kefalides strives to perform comprehensive evaluations of his patient's symptoms and is persistent and inquisitive with challenging clinical problems.
In addition to clinical care, he has contributed to teaching and leadership in his profession. He has previously served as an adjunct faculty member at New York University Medical Center, University of California at San Francisco and Touro University Medical College. He served as Chief of Gastroenterology at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center of Santa Rosa, California from 2013 through 2020. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and a member of the American Gastroenterological Association.
Outside of work, Dr. Kefalides enjoys the time he can spend with his family. He enjoys the outdoors and sports and one of his favorite weekend activities is to start a Sunday morning at a Cars and Coffee meet up. Dr. Kefalides wants his patients to feel that they have been listened to and cared for competently and with compassion.
