I believe that medicine, and particularly, ophthalmology and glaucoma, are both sciences and arts. I endeavor to apply the science of medicine and tailor a treatment plan to the individual patient. Educating patients that glaucoma is a team effort. I challenge them to take an active role in treating their disease. After all, they\'re the ones who have to take eyedrops on a daily basis in order to prevent vision loss. So at each visit, we have a frank discussion of the status of their disease and what we are going to do to keep them seeing for the rest of their lives. I can still vividly remember putting on my first pair of glasses as an eighth-grader and thinking, \"That's great - I can see now.\" After that experience, I decided that being an ophthalmologist would allow me to provide others with that thrilling feeling of improved vision and quality of life.
